We bet you’re already wondering what the world of beauty and style has in store for the coming year. and remains a favorite among over 50 fans. (It’s the crazy all-pink look usually reserved for Barbie dolls, as opposed to Barbie Core!) Let’s be honest, the beauty and fashion business has thrived on change, and it’s now millennials. Driven by gen and gen Z and sites like TikTok and Instagram. We’re just getting started, but here’s a list of eight things to try for adults.
1. Magenta…or red, fuchsia, or raspberry
(Left to right) Zara Women’s Alpaca and Wool Blend Sweater in Magenta ($50, zara.com/us); Essie Expressie Quick-Dry Nail Polish in Mic Drop-It-Low ($10, ulta.com); OPI Nail Lacquer Nail Polish, Pink In Seventh & Flower ($11, ulta.com)
Zara; Ultra Beauty (2)
The Pantone Color Institute has always created “Color of the Year” and the big prediction for 2023 is Viva Magenta, a purplish-red hue. Color trends are he one of those weird pop phenomena that can be seen in everything from fashion to design. It’ll be available across retail stores soon, but it’s already appearing on nail polishes and sweaters. Isn’t magenta your color? Try raspberry or cherry red, two blue-based sister colors.

2. Airy top with lace and tulle
(Left to right) Zara Lace Peplum Top ($50, zara.com/us). Ivory floral blouse from Anthropologie Plus ($148, anthropologie.com). All Saints Luna Broderie Anglaise Linen Top ($229, nordstrom.com); Neutral Motif Dolan Left Coast Plus Dolan Sheer-Sleeve Sweater Top ($128, anthropologie.com)
Zara; Anthropology; Nordstrom; Anthropology
At first glance, these peek-a-boo blouses don’t look like you can wear them, but the high neck and long sleeves have a Victorian feel to them, and they’re quite wearable. Give a glimpse of delicate and sophisticated skin.
3. Bare skin make-up
(Left to right) Iconic London Radiance Complexion Booster ($39, sephora.com). Jones Road Beauty What the Foundation ($44, jonesroadbeauty.com)
Sephora; Jones Road
Improving your complexion with a dewy glow and realistic color, lifelike face makeup doesn’t try to be full coverage. What began as a niche offshoot to tinted moisturizers two years ago has become the norm as better skincare frees women from traditional long-wearing face makeup with a minimalist attitude.
4. Rosie Blush
(Left to right) Selena Gomez Rare Beauty, Nearly Rose Stay Vulnerable Melting Cream Blush ($21, sephora.com). Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Lip + Cheek Cream Blush Stick in Dou Dou ($48, sephora.com); Milani Cheek Kiss Cream Blush in Coral Crush ($11, cvs.com)
Sephora (2); CVS
Many women over the age of 50 know the brightness of their cheek color, but now the new “cold girl” blush is popular. Just dab on blush for a “just walked outside in the chilly” glow. Sure, gemstones and metallic makeup are also on TikTok, with bejeweled eye studs, bleached brows, and bright eyeshadow, but blush is the trend that makes more sense for us. Look for creams that tighten the skin.
