OCALA – An officer at the Ocala Police Department said an 80-year-old woman was raped in her southwestern Ocala apartment on Wednesday night.
Police said the attack occurred at Saddleworth Green at 2901 SW 41st St.
Detectives said the victim called 911 shortly before 10 p.m. to report that she had been sexually assaulted in her apartment.

Authorities were told the door to the woman’s apartment was closed but not locked. A man armed with a screwdriver entered the residence.
According to OPD officials, the intruder first poked the woman with a screwdriver and then raped her.

Police said there were no previous reports of unusual activity, such as someone attempting to open the doors of the complex.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment. Officials said she was upset and said she had cancer.
The attacker is described as a black or Hispanic male between 5’8″ and 5’10” tall. He had a muscular build, curly hair, and a cloth covering his nose, mouth, and chin. Police have released a photo of the suspect from behind.
An official at the estates office on Thursday said he could not comment. She said management is gathering information and working with law enforcement. Officials at the scene said headquarters would comment.
