berryville — A new exhibit at Barnes of Rose Hill is designed to make visitors think about the beauty of trees.
Hosted by Elaine Dennison, the World of Wood Exhibit begins Saturday and runs through February 25th. The exhibit “celebrates the innate beauty of the world’s oldest building materials by showcasing local woodworkers and their crafts,” says Martha Reynolds. Her coordinator of marketing and outreach for the museum.
The late American architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said: It is the most humanly intimate of all materials. ”
Furniture, sculptures, and other unique wooden creations are part of the exhibit. Some will be sold.
To mark the opening of the exhibition, a reception will be held Saturday from 1-3pm at Barns’ Lower Gallery, Chalmers Court, Berryville. The non-profit cultural and performing arts center is located near the Berryville-Clark County Government Center.
At the reception, Jeff Headley of Mack S. Headley and Sons will present a presentation titled “100 Years of Family Business Building and Restoring Furniture in the Shenandoah Valley.” He demonstrates the construction of the Chippendale chest of drawers in the Shenandoah Valley while discussing his family’s legacy business and some of its clients.
As with Barnes’ other exhibits, the exhibit is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. during normal business hours. Admission is free.
The exhibition’s closing reception will be held on February 25th from 1-3pm.
Admission to both receptions is free, but please contact RSVP if you plan to attend. To do so, or for more information about the exhibit, go online at barnsofrosehill.org.
