There are three easy ways to test hair porosity at home. The first method is the float test, which observes whether the hair floats or sinks in water. With this method, you remove the hair with a hairbrush or directly from your head and place it in a glass of water. If your hair just sinks in, you probably have high porosity hair. If the hair is not sunk or is floating in the middle instead of staying at the top, then the hair has medium porosity.
The second test uses a spray bottle to observe how quickly the hair absorbs water. The case is very porosity hair. If you observe some water droplets that are absorbed by the hair immediately after, it is normal porosity hair.
For the final test, feel the texture of your hair by detaching one strand and gently sliding your finger upwards toward your scalp to feel the ridges. A bumpy texture indicates high porosity and a smooth texture indicates low porosity. It is important to note that all these porosity tests require the hair to be clean for accurate results.
