Woman charged with stealing Ulta beauty store
Two women are facing felony shoplifting charges for stealing dozens of products from the Ulta Beauty store at 27844 Woodward Avenue on December 23.
Police say the same store was targeted 10 days ago by five masked women, who fled after stealing about $7,000 worth of perfume and cologne in minutes.
Royal Oak Police Lt. Albert Carter said police are continuing work to determine whether the two women in the December 23 robbery are related to previous momentary thefts.
The driver who was with the two women was arrested, but no charges were filed against her at Royal Oak.
The indicted are Tiara Judge, 28, of Grand Rapids, and Jasmine Phillips, 24, of Wyoming, Michigan. They have posted bail and will be returned to Royal Oak 44th District Court before Judge Derek Meinecke at 9:45 am. Each woman has been charged with first-degree shoplifting, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Judge and Phillips quickly loaded perfume and cologne from shelves into baskets, just as the female crew did on December 13, Carter said.
“Other Ulta stores have been hit hard by these typically large groups of women,” says Carter.
The two suspects on Dec. 23 are also believed to have been involved in thefts at Ulta stores in Troy, Rochester Hills, Orion Township and Shelby Township, he added.
Royal Oak Police, working with Shelby Township police, arrested the suspect after being briefed on the getaway vehicle, police said.
Similar types of flash mob thefts have occurred at other Ulta stores in faraway states such as Illinois and Georgia.
Michigan’s Royal Oak Police Department said it believed several women from the west side of the state were involved in such thefts.
