As we enter the new year, it’s a good time to reflect on some of the biggest deals and acquisitions in the beauty industry in 2022.next year

Beiersdorf acquires Chantecaille
In early 2022, German multinational personal care company Beiersdorf announced that it had agreed to acquire Chantecaille Beaut Inc.
It will operate independently as one of the brands under the Beiersdorf Group. Later that year, Beiersdorf also acquired a majority stake in S-Biomedic NV, a Belgium-based specialist in skin microbiome research.
L’Oreal Acquires SkinBetter Science
In September 2022, beauty giant L’Oreal signed a deal to acquire SkinBetter Science. Arizona-based Skinbetter Science is a doctor-formulated skin care brand that develops products backed by dermatology.
Estée Lauder Acquires Tom Ford Brand
Later that year, after much speculation, it was announced that the rumors were true. The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. was to buy Tom his Ford brand. ELC has already been a longtime partner of the brand, but this latest deal makes the beauty giant the sole owner and is believed to be worth around $2.8 billion.
Famille C Venture acquires Ilia Beauty
French investment firm Famille C Venture has announced that it has agreed to acquire clean cosmetics brand Ilia Beauty in February 2022. The purpose of the acquisition is to give the holding company a head start in the clean beauty category, which is expected to grow significantly over the next few years.
Unilever acquires majority stake in Nutrafol
In May 2022, multinational consumer goods company Unilever signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Nutrafol. This New York-based company specializes in hair health and develops hair growth products with the patented Synergen Complex. It is understood to be a blend of medical-grade nutraceutical ingredients that target the root causes of hair health, from nutrition and aging to hormones and stress.
Following the deal, Nutrafol will operate as part of Unilever’s Health and Wellbeing division.
Silverwood Brands buys stake in Lush Cosmetics
UK-based cosmetics retailer Lush has landed a new investor as part of a deal closed in December 2022. The enterprise company Silverwood Brands plc acquired a 19.8% stake in the company in a transaction covering both brand rights and R&D.
Lacoste and Interparfums Sign 15-Year Fragrance License Agreement
At the end of this year, clothing brand Lacoste signed a 15-year global fragrance exclusive license agreement with Interparfums SA. The deal, which began with a $95.5 million registration fee, will begin with the launch of the new perfume line in 2024.
