Ashley Tisdale opened up about living with alopecia in new social media and blog posts.
For context, alopecia is an autoimmune skin disease that causes hair loss. It occurs in 2 of her 100 and is usually accompanied by patchy (but sometimes complete) hair loss on the scalp, face and body.
In her Instagram caption, Ashley wrote: The only one who goes through it. ”
“That’s why I want to talk about it openly because it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Sometimes it’s hormone related, sometimes it’s genetic. It’s associated with stress overload,” she continued.
In the accompanying video, Ashley said, “When I was in my 20s, I noticed a little baldness at my hairline,” explaining how she was diagnosed with alopecia by a dermatologist.
“A lot of it was due to stress, and I was going through a really stressful time. My hair is growing back. Thankfully, it’s always growing.”
“There have been a few times in my life when I’ve had very stressful events, and I’ve noticed that they come back.” “Well, what if it gets worse?” Ashley eventually acknowledged stress management techniques, platelet-rich plasma therapy, and her diet to help manage the autoimmune disease.
