Looking in the mirror can be painful if you haven’t slept well or you’re faced with a new wrinkle, but wearing makeup can greatly improve your mood. Julie Meiklea 51-year-old makeup artist and TikTok sensation . With more than 20 years in the beauty industry, she has some tips and product recommendations you can’t miss.

While makeup and hair tips are her main focus, she also wants to empower others and often discusses the realities of aging and body image. I promised,” she says. “I’m 51 and it’s okay. If I’m going to teach women, I need to be real.”

Meikle tells you what’s in your beauty bag and what products she recommends for women over 50.

    Primer

Meikle says it’s important to have a proper skin care routine before anything else, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need a little help from the makeup department. We make pores more visible. Enter: Primer, an easy camouflage method that smooths out the look all over the face.

A little primer goes a long way, says Meikle.I apply it before any other makeup.— metersMost women just need a little on their T-zone and cheeks. It’s a mini size, but it’s “forever”.

She also loves the Danessa Mylix Blurring Balm Powder. This is less “heavy duty” than tart, but produces a natural smoothing effect just as much.

    concealer/color corrector

Concealers or color correctors not only help even out skin, but also help minimize age-related shadows and discoloration. One of Meikle’s favorites is Sigma’s Color Correcting Duo. “It’s the perfect color for correcting my skin tone and hiding shadows without feeling heavy under my eyes,” she says. “It also comes in a variety of skin tones to suit all colors.”

These small touch-ups brighten the entire face and shift the focus to the eyes.

    light foundation

Finding a foundation you like doesn’t have to break the bank (Meikle’s Top Choices can be found at drugstores), However, it should feel light on your skin.According to Meikle, full-coverage foundation tends to look too heavy for women over 50.

She loves L’Oreal True Match Nude Plumping and Hydrating Tinted Serum Foundation. “I choose it over most high-end foundations,” she says.

    bronzer

After all your base makeup is done, it’s important to restore color and dimension to your skin, and choosing the right bronzer is important.Meikle recommends using a powder bronzer when you’re older. To do.

“My favorite is Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer,” she says. “It comes in a variety of shades and smells delicious. The soft formula makes it easy to blend, and it’s affordable.”

If you’re looking for a brand for a wide range of skin tones, Meikle recommends Fenty Beauty.

    eye shadow

Wearing different eyeshadows not only makes your eyes the focal point, but it’s also a great way to experiment with different colors when applying makeup. Meikle recommends using a primer or base before shadowing to offset discoloration and prep your lids for easier application.

“There are beautiful shadows on the market, but the most affordable options I like are the Elf Rose Gold Eye Shadow Palette and their Nude Mood Palette,” she says. “Creamy, easy to use, and full of beautiful pigment.” These palettes are lightweight and easy to store, especially if you’re traveling.

    eyebrow pencil

According to Meikle, eyebrow pencil is even more important than eyeshadow.

But there is a little Goldilocks going on with these pencils. It should be neither too hard nor too soft. If the pencil is too hard, it may be difficult to apply. If it’s too soft, you’ll have to blend too many products together and it can look too rough. She says Anastasia She’s Beverly Hills Brow Her Whiz is just right.

“The ABH Pencil is perfect and sized to create beautiful hair-like strokes,” she says. We also have most color options available.

    tubing mascara

Not only does our hair get thinner as we age, but sadly, so do our eyelashes. Thanks mascara. In particular, Meikle recommends tubing her mascara. Tubing mascara differs from regular mascara in that the polymer envelops each of her lashes.

Our eyes also become sensitive after the age of 50, So it’s also important to choose a mascara that amplifies your lashes without irritating them. tartlet tube mascara“It’s a buildable formula (not common in tube mascaras), and the wand is thin and long enough to reach the roots of your lashes.”

    lip liner/lipstick

Lip liners make your lips look fuller and define them.

Meikle’s favorite is Charlotte Tilbury Iconic Nude. “Neither pink nor orange, it’s the perfect neutral lip her liner,” she says. “You can slightly overline your lips to make it less noticeable.”

The liner can be used with any shade of lipstick, but if you’re sticking with a classy nude lip, Meikle suggests pairing the liner with L’Oreal Color Rich Formula in Fairest Nude. It looks great on any skin tone and has a creamy formula and rich color that Meekl loves. If she also plans to apply lipstick, make sure her lips are clean and hydrated beforehand.
