After the Cowboys led the 49ers in the divisional round, Brett Maher missed the extra point and fans were ready to send him to Siberia.
One of the Dallas Cowboys’ biggest storylines after their win over the Bucks in the wild card round of the playoffs was kicker Brett Maher. He missed his extra four points against Tampa Bay, but luckily it didn’t hurt them.
So all eyes were on Maher when he faced the 49ers in the Divisional Round on Sunday night. And the pre-match warm-up hasn’t been kind to him. Still, Dak Prescott found Dalton Schultz in the red zone for a 4-yard touchdown that gave the Cowboys the lead. Then Maha came out.
And then this happened.
But wait, it was blocked, right? It’s not Maher’s fault…or at least it wouldn’t have been if it hadn’t obviously widened left again. That’s why the extra points were blocked.
Cowboys fans furious as Brett Maher misses extra point
While the NFL Twitter continued to troll Dallas and Maher, Cowboys fans nearly lost their minds.
This is an absolute disaster for Dallas. They brought in Triston Vizcaino on the practice squad after the Bucks game, but called on Maher to stick around for a matchup against the 49ers.
But now things have changed. A go-to kicker in the regular season is clearly no longer the case for the Cowboys. Call it yips, scared or whatever, this is not a player who can kick a team in the playoffs right now.
