Achieving a hair care routine when you have naturally curly hair can be a daunting task. It also does a huge job of deep conditioning, hair oil, and gently detangling your hair.

Why does curly hair get tangled easily? And what can we do to prevent it from getting too bad? We all know that curly hair can be quite whimsical.

Luckily, to get down to the root (geddit) about how to detangle curly hair and the methods and products that can help you along the way, we reached out to an expert.

Why do curly hair get tangled?

“The main reason curly hair tangles is because it is more porous. ” explains Bruno Marc, award-winning hairdresser, director and founder of TAOH Hair Care.

“With that in mind, people with curly hair should try to keep their hair as hydrated as possible, especially with high quality salon professional hair care products. Their conditioner uses a hair mask once or twice a week that gives more moisture to the hair. Curly hair types tend to get frizzy easily, and using a hair mask will help control frizz and keep your hair smooth and silky. My favorite mask is the TAOH Hydrate Mask (£25 for 200ml).

There is also a lot of science behind why curly hair gets tangled. Fudge Professional Global His Ambassador Jonathan Andrew said: .

“Curly hair is notorious for being drier and more prone to frizz than straight hair. Designed to nourish and protect, this is important as it is what keeps your hair healthy and shiny, but sometimes this can be affected by color, heat styling and atmospheric free radicals. Because the oil cannot travel in a straight line and travels a longer distance to coat the entire hair, it tends to build up in certain areas without adding moisture to the hair.

    Does that make sense?

    how to detangle hair

Now that you know why curly hair tangles so easily, let’s ask an expert about the best way to detangle your hair. Leave it until it gets worse.

Yulia Rorstrom, CEO of Duck & Dry, explains: Make sure your hair is conditioned and nourished before brushing in a downward motion.

Divide your hair into sections, use a detangling or conditioning spray, then brush using a wide-toothed comb. Our Preheat Prep Hair Primer (ÂŁ22) is a miracle product for brushing curls.

“Regardless of what products you use to curl, look for ingredients like shea butter and essential oils that moisturize your hair and make it easier to comb through without damaging it.”

Principal Creative Ambassador and Curls and Textures Educator Danielle Lewis told Heat:

“Textured hair is best detangled when wet, as it is at its most delicate condition, especially when detangling hair with the Manta Brush (ÂŁ25). It’s best to be gentle with your movements, and make sure your hair is moisturized to prevent tangling and tangling. Helps you build.

“Also, don’t touch or curl your hair while it’s drying. This will cause frizz and break up your curl pattern. Don’t rub your hair with a towel as this will cause frizz and tangles.”

Only Curls founder Lizzie Carter also shares her top tips. Others prefer to detangle even more when applying leaves with conditioner. The latter method also results in a very even product application.

“I recommend refreshing your curls between washes to keep things under control. To do this, use a mist bottle to spray water on your hair. After that, you can gently detangle your curls. Curl them with a little more styling product to help set them together and redefine and moisturize them. Our Enhancing Curl Gel is light and perfect for refreshing.”

Jennifer Hirsch, known as The Beauty Botanist, shares her detangling routine. “When it comes to detangling and brushing curls, the lyrics to Mary Poppins’ Perfect Nanny can be heard in her head,” she says.

    • Always with patience, consideration and a light touch

    • Never comb or brush dry, but always use the product wet. Conditioners and masks like the new Naughty Wave Curl Butter 3-in-1 Treatment (ÂŁ9.99) are ideal for creating detangling slips.

    • Use a wide-tooth comb or wide-bristle brush to detangle from tip to root.

    • Helps reduce risk of rips, snaps and breakage when wet

    • Separates hair for easier management and ensures all tangles

    • Calm

    • do not hurry

    • After applying a treatment or styler, help your hair regain its curl pattern by turning your head upside down, turning your head upside down, and curling the loose ends with your fingers toward your scalp.

Best product to help detangle curly hair

Learning to brush curly hair the right way is a great step toward detangling, as well as investing in a great conditioning mask.

What products should I avoid for curly hair?

Products containing sulfates have a bad reputation when it comes to curly hair and are known to strip your hair of its natural oils. This is very important to keep the curls from drying out.

The use of products containing parabens is also prohibited.

How to detangle your child’s curly hair

Rebecca Bennett, JOHNSON’S® skin care expert, says, “During the summer, the UV rays from the sun’s rays can dry out your hair, and spending more time in the pool can cause the high concentration of chlorinated water to dry out your hair dryer. It weakens and can weaken and cause breakage.

“Specially designed to keep kids’ hair manageable, JOHNSON’S® No More Tangles Kids Shampoo (ÂŁ2.50) gently cleanses for soft, smooth hair and detangles knots and tangles during bath time. For best results include as part of a 3-step routine (JOHNSON’S® No More Tangles™ Kids Conditioner (ÂŁ2.50) and JOHNSON’S® No More Tangles™ Kids Conditioner Spray (ÂŁ2.50) ) along with).

“After washing and conditioning, comb through your hair with a wide-toothed comb, starting at the ends and working upwards toward your scalp, as using a brush on wet hair can damage it. Please avoid.”
