New Delhi, 4th January
A hair and bone sample sent for DNA profiling by the police was confirmed to be that of Shradha Walkar, who was killed by her live-in partner Aaftab Amin Poonawala.
Special Commissioner of Police Sagar Preet Hooda said the bone and hair samples from which DNA could not be extracted were sent to the Center for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) in Hyderabad for “DNA mitochondrial profiling”.
“We received the results on Wednesday. The bone fragments and strands of hair that were believed to be from the body matched those of her father and brother. This confirms that the bones and hair belonged to Shraddha Walker.” ” said the officer, adding that the bones would be sent for an autopsy to be performed by the AIIMS medical committee.
Grim details of Shradha’s murder shook the country after Delhi police arrested Aaftab on 12 November. He is currently in judicial custody. After he strangled Shraddha on May 18, his body was allegedly cut into his 35 pieces, which he kept in a refrigerator for nearly three weeks. He then dumped parts of his corpse in various locations around the city.
