Love it or hate it, Emily In Paris is back on screen and already making headlines.
The Netflix show featuring Lily Collins as a French American is now in its third series and begins with Emily going through the rite of passage of getting an extreme haircut during a turbulent phase of her life.
In the show, Emily commits the cardinal sin of cutting her own fringes (although the results look questionable and professional), and her roommate Mindy (played by Ashley Park) calls them “trauma bangs.”
Despite the circumstances surrounding the haircut, Collins definitely pulls it off. Gapped full-her fringes, curtain bangs, and gelling into curls.
There’s a reason French style icons set so many trends. There’s something very chic about the effortless Parisian look. If you want to change your hairstyle like Emily, why not take inspiration from the French?
1. Birkin bangs
Collins’ look is a modern take on the French classic Birkin Bangs. It was first popularized in the ’60s by fashion icon Jane Birkin (the same Birkin who named Hermès bags after her).
As with many signature French hairstyles, it’s all about a relaxed vibe. Instead of putting all your hair in place, aim for messy chic. Not only does it look better, it’s also much easier to maintain.
2. Relax Rob
If you don’t like long hair, take a leaf out of a book by Jeanne Damas, a Parisian designer known for her understated lobs. is bordered.
Unlike short bobs, which need to be trimmed fairly regularly, it becomes difficult to notice when a lob grows.
3. Amelie’s Bob
The 2001 film Amelie is a cult classic, and Audrey Tautou’s character has one of the most iconic movie hairstyles.
It’s not for everyone, and it’s certainly harder to care for than a messy lob, but it’s seriously cool. A chin-length bob with baby bangs and flipped ends.
4. Messy updo
Want a cool French look without actually cutting your hair? Then, try a relaxed, messy updo. Worn by style stars like model Tina Kunakey, it looks great on the red carpet or off-duty.
Suitable for almost all hair types – looks especially good with curls flowing down, but you don’t have to be a pro to get the look. It’s just that the tendrils are hanging.
5. Lots of Layers
There’s a reason Brigitte Bardot is trending on TikTok this year. Her 60’s beauty is beyond her time.
She’s best known for her voluminous blond hair.Think a lot of layers, sweep the curtain bangs and, if you dare, look teased bouffant.
