Daniel Craig returns as detective Benoît Blanc and is “mysteriously” invited by technology billionaire Miles Bronn, played by Edward Norton, to visit him on his private Greek island. , Kate Hudson, Kathryn Hahn, Dave Bautista, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, and Madeline Klein invited a close circle of friends to a weekend of murder mysteries. Janelle Monae’s Andy is also invited to the shenanigans, despite her character recently falling out with the group and losing a lawsuit against Bronn.
The big thing that becomes clear halfway through the film after Bautista’s character dies is that Andy isn’t who she says she is, but actually her twin sister Helen.
Head of the hair department, Leslie Bennett, was given specific notes. “Lian wanted Andy and Helen to have two different looks.”
As a businesswoman, Andy’s hair was smooth and polished, and Bennett says, “She was the corporate trendsetter type.” Adds Monae in a blonde bobwig.
When it comes to Helen’s wig, Monae makes fun of the Easter egg in front of her. “Helen’s wig is the one we talked about with Ryan. When she’s playing Andy and no one knows it’s her, her hair part is on the other side.” The idea is that she is a mirror image of her sister.”
Audiences get to see the real Helen when she meets Bran for the first time. Her character is a schoolteacher and her wardrobe consists of cardigans and boxy t-shirts. Bennett said, “Helen’s original look was more natural and effortless.” Her look was natural with long, dark curly hair. Bennett says she was thrilled to exhibit “because of its texture.”
Upon closer inspection, when Helen was pretending to be Andy, Monáe pointed out that Helen had to cut her hair and wear a wig.
Makeup artist Golden (Sunshine) stepped in to add the finer details. “She made my skin look golden,” says Monáe. “We were in 110-degree weather, so we had to make sure the foundation was matching, as we were getting sunburnt quickly. We wanted Helen and Andy to have a natural look.” So when I got out of the car and first saw all the vandals looking at me, we wanted this dewy skin look. No red lips, kept it natural.”
Another difference is in the eyebrows. Helen’s brows are naturally thicker compared to Andy’s waxing and shaping. Monae says: But if you’re Andy, you needed to be well cared for. ”
Johnson took great care, putting in hints along the way. There were many prophecies.
The film begins with Bronn sending his friend a mysterious puzzle box containing invitations for a murder mystery weekend. Monáe says the audience first met Andy when he was breaking a box of puzzles. However, she is not really her, but her sister Helen. “Ryan and I were talking about the idea that she should have a towel around her head, so I don’t know who that was or what Andy looked like.” Look, I’d say it’s a foreshadowing of what happens at the end.
