Tell me what you’re doing, Jana!
I have been a stylist in Boston for 25 years. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some great people in Boston and elsewhere in the industry. I love being able to grow my business through different areas of the industry, photography, editorial shoots, weddings, fashion shows and salons. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with celebrities and celebrity stylists at fashion week shows such as Paris and New York Fashion Week.
When did you open your own studio here?
We opened Jana Rago Studios in 2018 and are very excited to announce that we will be moving into a larger space on Newbury Street in the winter of 2023.
How many weddings does your salon perform each year?
My staff and I do about 25-30 weddings per year. Wedding bookings are only open for a short period of time and you have to be careful about how many you take so that you can maintain a balance with your regular clients.

It’s wonderful to see the bride feeling her best on her special day. We can be part of that magic. Enjoying with them is a personal experience. It’s a blend of what they want and our expertise to make sure they get the look they want, but also what’s best for their specific hair type.

It used to be that everyone had their hair up and it was all updos, but now it’s more natural with waves. Today’s brides want to look like themselves rather than a more staged look. increasing. Even if the bride wants a bun, it’s not a full bun, but a more toned-down and simple look.
Rago says these three looks are on trend now and will stay in style for a long time to come. “The most important thing for us is that the bride feels like her best self on her special day.”

An all-time favorite look is the low to mid bang. Simple, classic, and sophisticated style for a modern bridal look. My wife is also doing the hard part, so it doesn’t matter if it’s on the side or in the middle. Just by licking it, you can get a tasteful look.

Another popular look at the moment is natural textured waves. In this style, I usually take advantage of the natural texture of the bride’s hair, but take it to the next level to create a wedding look. I usually pull a few pieces out to loosely frame my face, but you can easily tuck them back if needed.

There are still some traditional bridal styles, but what we often do is a blend of two looks, a mix of modern and natural. Create softer waves, part your hair, and add bridal accessories. Even though you are styling, your face will be soft.
