Fort Wayne’s only mobile blow-dry style salon, 260HAIRBUS is changing the way some people care for their hair in the future. The mobile beauty salon, a former 2005 East Allen County Schools Navistar bus for students with special needs over 200,000 miles, will be set up in downtown Fort Wayne this winter for a quick lunchtime clipper. We offer cuts and after-work self-care scalp massages. .
It is also available for employee appreciation events, neighborhood association activities, private parties and other special events, according to owner/beautician/bus driver Beth Moken. “We are mobile and completely self-sufficient,” he says Morken. However, we are not ready to visit individual homes, but are set up for walk-in service at certain locations and events. ”
Morken points out: This also allows us to offer our operators a higher base salary. ”
Mobile Shop specializes in clipper cuts and blow dry styles. No reservation required. Morken wants to have Sunday hours so the whole family can stop by for hair needs. “Also, she is proud to offer a $5 discount to teachers, nurses, veterans and first responders as a way to give back to our community. Hair parties, weddings and community outreach. You can rent it for her events and more,” she added.
We are currently training 2 staff stylists, and hope to rotate 3 to 5 people in the future. 260HAIRBUS can be found on many social media platforms where customers can find links to check-in to the waiting list. Customers are prompted to select a service, enter their name and phone number, and receive an estimated wait time.
Shortly after making the decision to start 260HAIRBUS, the Fort Wayne native realized she might have been slightly out of her element and chewing too hard. “I did some research on the internet, but couldn’t find any information about mobile beauty salons. I learned about plumbing, electricity, design, and the bath itself. I helped design a system that included a cycle battery, a generator, two 125-gallon winter water tanks, a roof-mounted heating and air-conditioning unit, a water heater, a bathroom, a shampoo chair, and two workstations. We can operate in 90-degree heat and sub-zero temperatures,” she said.
In her effort to bring something new and exciting to Fort Wayne, Moken found that every day brings new challenges. She did all the bath interior work herself (design, vinyl her flooring, interior and exterior painting, carpentry). She hired electrical experts, manufacturers and plumbers to perform the installation of the equipment, one of whom she died shortly after the project began.
“Early feedback has been very positive. Customers love the clean, relaxed look of the interior and appreciate the convenience. increase.”
Morken earned her cosmetology license at Anthis Career Center during her junior and senior years at South Side High School. She has a passion for teaching and running a beauty school is her long-term goal.
