There are some stars who really can’t do anything wrong on the red carpet – and one of them is Lily James.
For the 2023 Golden Globe Awards, she chose a gorgeous chic lob by celebrity hairstylist Harry Brisker. But one thing you probably can’t guess about the look is that the artist actually used tape-in extensions to create the look, along with some cult-favorite products.
Lucky for us, Brisker gave Instyle A full breakdown of how it all came together.
:
The inspiration behind James’ look is ’90s glam — Italian trend To be precise; a nod to classic Hollywood. “The dress was a real statement, so after a few initial ideas, we decided we wanted something that was expensive but gentle on Lily’s features,” Brisker explains.

As for how he created the look, the hairstylist started by using Olaplex’s No.6 Bond Smoother and No.9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum. Next, I created a side him part just above the arch of my brow and blew the hair out with a medium round his brush for volume.
“I curled my hair down while drying to create a nice beveled finish,” he says. “I lifted the front a bit to give it more silhouette, then added some more Hold Spray, tightened it down and let it dry. This ensured it would stay upright nicely and stay there.”
Then came the secret sauce: extensions.
“To accomplish this, I applied Great Lengths GL Tape-Ins in shade 02 on each side. I used just enough to fill the space nicely. continues Mr. “The advantage of the Great Length System is that they are sandwich tapes and lie flat beautifully, creating a seamless, invisible effect.”
To finish it all off, he ironed James’ hair and flipped one side. “I wiped off my parting and applied a finishing balm and a dusting of hairspray to complete the look,” he adds.
And for those looking to recreate the look at home, Brisker has one piece of advice. “You can do it on the cool shot setting of your dryer, and a dense texture spray is a great way to get that extra body and retain the finished look.”
There it is.
