No nugget of wisdom I relate to, at least when it comes to beauty, is more than “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.” Just like when I got back, I had tight, bleach-blonde ringlets. (So that was the *look* of the mid-2000s.)
But we live in a curly hair renaissance, so I’m hurting the locks I had as a child. But I’m trying to revive at least some kind of curl pattern. So far, Living Proof Curl Shampoo and Conditioner are the only products that have helped me on my journey.
Key Features of Living Proof Curl Shampoo and Conditioner
- How I tested: I used the shampoo and conditioner set 3-4 times a week for 6 months.
- Best for: Those who want to emphasize natural waves and curls without using styling products.
- What You’ll Love: Immediate results; non-stripping formula in shampoo and non-greasy texture in conditioner.
- Please note the following: The curl-enhancing effects are temporary, at least for me, and you may need other products to keep them in place.
- Main Ingredients: Methiopeptides in shampoo (to improve hair strength and elasticity) and shea butter in conditioner (to help create curl groupings).
Living Proof Curl Shampoo and Conditioner Reviews
As you might guess from the name, both Living Proof Curl Shampoo and Conditioner are specially designed for wavy, curly and coily hair types, from fine to thick textures. The creamy shampoo doesn’t lather too much, so it won’t dry out your mane, but it’s deep enough to cleanse without leaving your scalp feeling greasy. Similarly, moisturizing shea butter-infused conditioners help create curl groupings and reduce frizz without weighing down your strands. It has a slightly floral scent.
I first tried Living Proof Curl Shampoo and Conditioner 6 months ago. On the first wash day, and all subsequent wash days, the shampoo was first used to cleanse the scalp. The scalp was built up with sweat and dirt from training and gardening. Next, apply conditioner to your strands, focus on the middle and ends of the shaft, and leave it on for 2-3 minutes while you wash your face and body. From there, I combed the product through my hair with a wet brush, rinsed well, and squeezed out as much water as I could with a soft cotton t-shirt.
Once the air was dry, the waves, which are usually few and far between, looked bouncy, curled, and more defined over the decades.
Without styling products, my curly waves flatten out in a day or two, so Living Proof formulas aren’t necessarily a long-term solution to my hair dilemma. I’ll have to research and test some gentle curl creams and mousses that are lightweight enough for my fine texture while still holding my curl pattern in place. It seems to affect the state Immediately after a collarbone length chop, the post-wash curls are bouncy and seem to loosen as the hair grows.
I still don’t think my wavy curls are showing up to their full potential, but I’m not giving up on Living Proof Curl Shampoo and Conditioner anytime soon. Her two sulfate-free products have left my hair healthy, strong, and non-greasy. Also, when combined with other curl-enhancing treatments, the defined curls of youth may return again.
