Lizzo has always used her platform to combat health and body stereotypes. Her Instagram video posted by the superstar this weekend is a prime example.
The pop star shuts down comments about her body again in a new Instagram reel. Here’s what her body icon had to say about the constant mix of opinions flooding her social media her platform.

“The discourse around dead bodies is officially disgusting,” she said in the video. “I’ve seen comments like, ‘Oh my God, I liked you when you were fat, how come you’re skinny?’ I liked your body’ to ‘Oh my god, you’re so big! You need to lose weight, but for your health!’ ‘Oh my god, you’re so small! —–Or should I get something” to “Oh my God, why did she get all the work done? That’s too much work…'”
These conflicting comments make Lizzo wonder, “Are you okay?”
“Can you see delusions?” she continued. “Do we realize that artists are not here to meet your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art, this body is art, and I I’m going to do whatever I want with this body.”
Lizzo concludes the video by saying, “I wish comments cost money so I could see how much time I wasted doing the wrong thing.” Although she addressed the negative comments, her section of her video comments was flooded with positive affirmations, including praise from Jonathan Van Her Ness and Tabitha Brown.
“Because our bodies are nobody[‘s] business,” agreed Tabitha Brown in a comment.
I couldn’t agree more with Lizzo’s message. Your journey to health is a personal matter that does not need to be shared with the world. We are constantly given an “ideal” body type on social media, but that ideology should not exist. All body types are beautiful, and there are some measures of health that have nothing to do with weight at all, and we’re more than happy to share Lizzo’s energy after her January of this year.
