Skin care in cold climates is difficult and must be done proactively. Neglecting to take care of your skin, especially your face, can lead to many ailments that are harder to cure than prevent. I’ve been lucky enough to have great skin, but I spend a lot of time and energy making sure my skin stays hydrated and well-maintained. Thought I’d share my winter beauty routine.
eat well. Diet has a big impact on your skin. If you eat too much fatty or fattening food, you may notice unwanted or unexpected breakouts (even at our age!). Eat lots of colorful fruits and vegetables – not only will your skin thank you, but your immune system and overall health will also benefit.
hydration. It’s easy to remember to drink water during the hot, humid summers, but it’s easy to forget to heed the same advice during the cold months. Add lemon, cucumber, or fresh herbs for a refreshing flavor.
Moisturize daily. Yes: daily. Moisturize all day long. Cold, dry air sucks all the moisture out of your skin, leaving it dry, flaky, and itchy. Find a face cream that works for your skin type and apply it regularly.
Please keep applying that sunscreen. Sunscreen is important not only in warmer months, but also in winter. Wear it every day.
Go for a facial. A good facial can help tone your skin (and give you a little R&R too). Visit our beauty vendors to find great places around town where you can book a facial and save money.
don’t forget the lips. Winter wreaks havoc on our lips during the winter months. Apply a generous amount of lip balm throughout the day to keep cracked, dry wrinkles at bay.
