AFP – A phenomenon that is becoming more and more difficult to ignore.
Shampoos, masks, and various oils were enough to care for your mane, but now there’s a new generation of hair care products to pamper your hair in the same way you pamper your skin.
This is a trend that puts the scalp at the center of new beauty routines. Welcome to the age of “skinning”.
Everyone has their own hair routine. Some spend hours, are content with conventional shampoos and conditioners, and go to their favorite hair salon at least once a month.
Whatever your case, with the rise of “skinning” that is bound to change.
I think the inclusion of the word “skin” here means that your hair care routine will soon resemble your facial skin care routine.
As a result, the hair care product category is evolving, with brands increasingly modeling these into skin care essentials.
hair revenge
If you’re a hair care enthusiast, you probably saw it coming some time ago.
In fact, the past few months have seen a new category rise to the limelight with products dedicated to hair that you would never think of.
Scrubs, anti-blemish treatments, exfoliating brushes, night care products, exfoliating shampoos, micellar shampoos.
There is no longer any doubt. These new generation products are actually designed specifically for your hair and are about to change your hair routine.
As with the skin, it now treats sunburn, pollution, damage from excess sebum, and many styling treatments such as dyes, straighteners, and extensions that can damage hair, as well as get a complete routine. Prevention is the primary focus.
More than that, it’s about creating a personalized routine at home, depending on your hair’s texture, color, length, or special needs.
This elevates the scalp, the connection between skin and hair, to the new star in the hair department.
All (literal) root scalps
Just walk into a hair salon and you’ll find some services have already evolved. In the last few months, and possibly years, you can do a scalp massage or complete exfoliation.
In the past, hair ends were the center of attention, but those days seem to be over.
And this focus on the scalp isn’t all that surprising considering it’s the area where hair grows.
A good reason to care for it is to make sure it is free of dry, greasy, irritated or dead skin buildup, contamination, or residue of hairspray, gels, oils, and other styling products. That’s it.
In its annual report, Pinterest observes a particular appetite for products and tech designed to pamper the scalp, coming in 2023.
This includes scalp treatments for dry scalp (+70%), scalp massage techniques (+55%) and those related to scalp cleansing (+55%).
Based on months of analysis and evaluation of 400 million user searches, this report shows the scale of interest in these new practices.
When creating your overall routine, consider all the beauty essentials you use on your skin, excluding any makeup removers you don’t need.
Scrubbing the scalp, on the other hand, is essential to remove all the dirt that can accumulate on a daily basis, followed by a shampoo according to your hair type. Aging and more – serums and (why?) evening treatments.
You can take this new breed of routine a step further by using anti-acne products and micellar water to clean your hair without over-stripping.
Enough to get hair worthy of a Disney prince or princess.
