This little boy and his parents showed off their impressively healthy communication skills during a recent discussion about parents telling their kids “because I said so.”
Samantha Sophia (@raisingself), a mother of three, shares videos of her husband and kids, including her precocious 11-year-old son Nathan. Nathan loves friendly debates with his parents and has impressive communication skills for an 11-year-old. A recent video showcased the family’s healthy communication skills. Nathan began questioning his parents as to why some parents refuse to answer their children’s questions.
The video opens with Nathan in the middle of a conversation standing in front of a TV and talking to his parents. “Questioning a parent figure shouldn’t be a sign of disrespect,” a smart 11-year-old tells his parents.
“We totally agree with you,” Samantha replies.
“I think it’s because they don’t really know how to describe it,” Nathan continues.
“Sometimes,” Nathan’s dad replies. “Or what they want to know shouldn’t be explained to them.”
“But don’t just say, ‘I said so,'” insists Nathan.
“Didn’t you see that episode? Bluey? ” Nathan’s dad asks, referring to the episode of the popular children’s series that brought up the topic.
“Because I don’t have time to explain,” Nathan replies.
“They’re tired, irritable, and have other things going on,” explains Nathan’s dad.
“But this is the problem,” said Nathan, objecting to his father. I think you should say “I’ll explain later”. But even if they say so, I think they feel like they don’t explain later because there’s always something more important. ”
“Hmm,” replied Nathan’s dad, momentarily puzzled by his son’s argument.
“There are always things more important than explaining something to a child,” Samantha clarifies at the end of the video.
Viewers were blown away by Nathan’s impressive communication skills.
“If I were a kid like that, I would always take the time to explain. His emotional intelligence is next level,” wrote one viewer.
“As a child development expert, he’s emotionally adept. You guys are doing a great job! Another viewer commented.”
“So when is his Ted Talk?” joked another TikToker.
Maybe Nathan should join the school debate team!
