Durham County Police have visited an elderly woman’s apartment in Whitby looking for a teenage boy who was believed to have brandished a knife.
Around 1:30 pm on Saturday, police received a call from a man armed with a knife at an apartment building at 712 Rossland Road East.
The man went up to the 12th floor and knocked on the door of an elderly woman’s apartment. When she answered, he brandished a knife and demanded she leave the apartment.
The woman refused and was able to close the door.
“The suspect fled from the back of the building and walked south on Teddington Crescent,” police said. “At this point, this appears to be a random act.”
The suspect is described as a 5-foot-4-inch Caucasian male, around the age of 16, with curly dark hair, a round face, and a stocky build.
He wore a black down jacket, a black Under Amour shirt, dark pants, and white earphones.
Officers are asking anyone who was in and around Teddington Crescent at the time and who may have video surveillance footage to contact police at 1-888-579-1520 extension. 1877.
Anonymous information can also be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca.
