comment: LeBron has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company’s brands such as Almay, Elizabeth Arden, and of course Revlon have been slow to enter the digital arena, unable to find a foothold among younger consumers. LeBron has $3 billion in long-term debt. More recently, supply chain issues have shaken results.
Debra Perelman, President and CEO, said: “Consumer demand for our products remains strong, people love our brand, and we continue to maintain a healthy market position. Limited ability to weather macroeconomic challenges to meet demand, hopes to simplify capital structure and significantly reduce debt, maximizing potential of globally recognized brand We are working to ensure that the restructuring is as seamless as possible for our key stakeholders, including our employees, customers and vendors, and we appreciate their support during this process.”
Even after LeBron’s relatively good results, problems remain. Last year’s sales he exceeded $2 billion, up 9.2%. All segments reported gains, including his 14.8% increase in Elizabeth Arden. The company attributes this to demand for its green tea fragrances and ceramide skin care products. Fragrance performance increased 13.8% on strong sales of Juicy Couture, John Barbatos, Britney Spears and Curb.
Revlon segment sales increased 5.7% to approximately $728 million. This was primarily due to higher international sales of Revlon Professional Hair Care products and higher sales of color cosmetics, particularly in North America.
Sales increased 7.8% in the first quarter of 2022 to nearly $480 million. Net loss was cut from his $96 million in the first quarter of 2021 to his $67 million this year. Sales of Revlon products jumped him 195%, while Elizabeth Arden’s sales fell nearly 36% of his. “
Late last month, Indian conglomerate Reliance was said to be interested in buying Revlon.
