Two years after releasing their doom metal oeuvre, Rome’s Shores Of Null are preparing to wash their listeners down with a new wave of dull, melancholic doom metal. The Loss Of Beauty once again marries thunderous music with ethereal vocals, at the same time heartbreaking and cathartic. His second single, released in video format, is ‘The Last Flower’, with his vocalist Davide Straccione commenting:
“This song has one of the best choruses on the album in my opinion and I feel very connected to the lyrics as well. I imagined a future where only the flowers that survive are the only ones alive.A metaphor that encapsulates The Loss Of Beauty’s main theme of remaining beautiful no matter what. It’s a reminder that everything is fleeting. ”
Straccione explains that what sets them apart among all the doom metal bands around them is the way they approach melodies, especially vocals. They don’t just growl to the music, they try to interact with it, both with clean, harmonious vocals and harsh vocals. They try to recreate their vocal harmonies live, with the rest of the band pitching in to accentuate the chorus. They also put a lot of emphasis on their visuals, which can be seen in the accompanying music videos and sometimes influences their upcoming singles.
Shores Of Null is both overwhelmingly heavy and comfortable, trading off gothic doom vibes for dark aggression. Their music stands out for its melancholic yet majestic atmosphere, exploiting the full range with coral-like guitar textures, underpinned by strong rhythmic sections, and by a sophisticated brew of clean, growl. It is interrupted and makes extensive use of vocal harmonies. It has become one of the band’s trademarks over the years.
