Hair loss can be a difficult problem due to various causes, including genetics.
However, it is also affected by factors such as age, stress, anxiety, sleep hygiene and diet.
Recent research suggests that consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages, including energy drinks, may contribute to hair loss in men.
The reasons behind the scientists’ thinking are explained in a publication in the peer-reviewed journal Nutrients.
Conducted by Chinese scientists at Beijing’s Tsinghua University, the study involved 1,000 men.
The results showed that excessive consumption of energy drinks, carbonated drinks, sports drinks, and sweetened tea and coffee may increase the chances of developing male pattern baldness.
To reach their conclusions, study participants were instructed to consume between one and three liters of sugary drinks per week.
Researchers then evaluated the effects of the drink on men’s hair health.
They found that people who drank sweetened beverages two or more times a day had a 42% higher risk of hair loss than those who never drank them.
Additionally, men who reported experiencing hair loss consumed an average of 12 sugary drinks per week.
We don’t know if energy drink consumption directly causes hair loss, but it may play a role.
Because the study in question had a limited sample size and relied on self-reported information, it is important to consider other studies and consult medical professionals before drawing definitive conclusions.
Men in the study recorded their eating and drinking habits, including notes on emotional health.
It was also found that those who reported experiencing anxiety were more prone to hair loss, as were those who ate a diet high in fast food and low in vegetables.
