THE latest trend, ‘hair cycling’, recommends changing shampoo and conditioner after every wash and using a clearing shampoo every few weeks as a hard reset, based on the results you want to achieve.
I will try 3 of the best.
The Body Shop Tea Tree Purifying & Balancing Shampoo lathers really well
budget
The Body Shop Tea Tree Purifying & Balancing Shampoo, £8.50 for 250ml, thebodyshop.com: This shampoo lathers so well that it instantly deep cleans.
Adds shine and contains vegan silk protein to help repair hair from within.
My hair felt perfectly clean, but it got greasy as quickly as regular shampoo.
Plus, I’m not a fan of the smell, it’s too medicinal.

Aveda is one of my favorite hair care brands, but this shampoo was my least favorite of the three.
Aveda Rosemary Mint Purifying Shampoo, £16.50 for 250ml, lookfantastic.com: Aveda is one of my favorite hair care brands, but this shampoo was my least favorite of the three.
As with the tea tree shampoo above, I didn’t like the herbal rosemary and mint scent.
And I found that I had to shampoo my head twice to get close to the best shampoo I’ve tried.
Granted, I use a lot of styling products and have naturally oily hair, so I probably have more build-up than most people, but this wasn’t the hard reset I was hoping for. .
But if you’re just worried about greasy roots, it’s probably gentle enough to use for all your washes.

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Triple Detox Shampoo, £25 for 160ml, livingproof.co.uk: I was skeptical when I first saw the tar-like consistency, but it didn’t have to be. was a favorite of
The shampoo doesn’t lather very well, so it takes a while to wash, but my hair has never felt so clean.
Other than that, no complaints. My hair easily lasts a few extra days before needing to be washed and doesn’t flake or dry out despite deep cleansing.
And since it’s living proof, it’s free of silicones, parabens, and sulfates.
