Good news for all of you who have been sucking up The Beauty Queen of Jerusalem on Netflix and waiting for more: we finally know when season 2 of the show will premiere in Israel. melodrama.
Season 2 will premiere in Israel on January 23rd. And all our favorite players are back. Hira Sada can be seen feeding people on the street, and in the teaser, as Rosa, the wife of Michael Aroni’s even greyer yet very handsome Gabriel Hermosa, is someone Yuval Schaaf returns from America as Rochelle, Gabriel’s Ashkenazi lover.
Irit Kaplan returns as the whimsical and playful Hermosa matriarch Merkada. Dov Navon is back as Mr. Zachs, the owner of his fashion boutique. Mr. Zachs arguably has the best chemistry with Luna than anyone else on the show. And the lovely Abraham, played by Itzik Cohen, will also be back.
Then, of course, there’s the hypnotized beauty queen Luna, played by Sewell Ariel Orr, and Israel Ogarbo.spoiler* The beauty queen’s new husband, David Franco. He carries her over the threshold of her home and the two of her are seen dancing together. As Or said in his recent Yes TV Instagram story, the two seem smitten with local British high society. Oh Lala.
We also get a sneak peek of some of the new characters joining the cast. I swear this cast continues to grow more and more beautiful (and more talented).
The new teaser seems to promise just as much drama: explosions, grenades, fistfights, soldiers walking the streets… And as usual, there’s a beautiful scene in 1940s Jerusalem. The previous season ended in his 1942, and the new season may also begin in his 1940s.
Unlike Netflix, which aired the show as 20-hour episodes, Israel’s Yes Studios chose a daily drama format, splitting the season into 44 episodes, each less than 30 minutes long.
Yes, it looks like we’re taking a similar route this time around. The new season’s episodes (or at least the first part of the new season?) will air Monday through Wednesday, three nights a week.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing to report on when (or if!) the season is coming to Netflix.
In the meantime, if you liked the original book (which I would argue is better than the series because it has a basic, basic take), Sarit Yishai-Levi’s second book, The Woman Beyond the Sea,’ comes out in March, and you’ve really read it already, and I can guarantee you’ll be in for another excellent Jewish family drama about a daughter and mother.
